Academy Students Win First Place in Fairchild Challenge One

Fairchild Winners Academy

Congratulations to Woodland Hills Academy 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for winning first place in Fairchild Challenge 1 at Phipps Conservatory. Challenge one asked middle school students to reduce food waste by creating a cookbook of recipes that were made from unused parts of food, ugly fruits and vegetables, or food that was close to its expiration date. They were also asked to conduct research about how food waste contributes to climate change and write an essay about it. As a bonus, they were challenged to reduce the amount of food they waste at home and measure the difference in their food waste before and after being eco-conscious. Their cookbook that included ten recipes and was entitled “An Ap’peel’ing ‘Scrap’book of Green Cuisine” earned 200.8 out of a possible 200 points. We are very proud of their superior work!
