Welcome to Edgewood Primary! My name is Jean McAteer and I have had the pleasure of being the principal for the last seven years. As some of you may know I got married over the summer. As letters and notes come home with your children you will notice a change to my last name. It is now Livingston.
Edgewood Primary is a pre-kindergarten through third grade building with almost 550 students. There are 6 kindergarten classrooms, 6 first grades, 5 second grades, 7 third grades and 1 pre-kindergarten. We also offer support to children through our special education classes. At Edgewood there are two Autistic Support classes, two Learning Support classes, Emotional Support class, Discovery, one kindergarten speech and language class and a first grade speech and language support class.
We are lucky enough to have a full time nurse, Mrs. Walsh, and a full time guidance counselor, Mrs. Miller. They are available to you if you have any questions. The extension for the nurse's office is 2150 and the extension for the guidance counselor is 2130.
The Woodland Hills School District is a recipient of the Reading First Grant. This grant has placed an emphasis on reading at Edgewood. During our 90-minute uninterrupted reading block the children focus on the five key elements of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension.
In addition to academics the children receive physical education twice a week, art, music, and library once a week. This is a benefit for our children.
