PHILOSOPHY
The guidance and counseling program at each of the educational levels- elementary, junior high school, and senior high school- in the Woodland Hills School District is committed to individualizing and personalizing the educational experiences of all students in a diverse, multicultural student population.
Such a philosophical perspective involves:
· Recognizing and encouraging individual uniqueness
· Facilitating student development as well as the understanding and acceptance of others
· Assisting students to become aware of, plan for, and master educational and occupational opportunities
· Helping students develop the multiple skills needed for adapting to an ever changing society
· Providing all students services designated to help them to share, cooperate in and master the academic and extracurricular opportunities of the Woodland Hills School District

Click here to view the monthly themes used for Shaffer's STAR Program. Students follow the theme of the month in order to learn to be more responsible and make positive choices.
School bus safety awareness is an important topic to discuss with your child at home and will be reviewed throughout the school year in the classrooms. Click here to see a list of safety tips.
**Shaffer Elementary will once again be participating in a program to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank called "Pennies for Peanut Butter." This is a project of the Kids Campaign to End Hunger. Students will be collecting change in their homerooms until December 18th, which will then be taken to the food bank. Students will be doing a good deed for the community while using their counting skills and having fun.**
**During the month between Thanksgiving and the winter holiday break, Shaffer students will collect canned goods to take to the Braddock Carnegie Library before the holiday break. This year will be the fourth consecutive year for the project, which has been successful and has given the students a chance to see how many cans their classroom has contributed through charting.**
