The staff of Woodland Hills Intermediate School is committed to providing each and every student with a quality education that focuses on the academic and social growth of each individual. The Ready math curriculum and the Reading Wonders series are standards-aligned and are complemented by intervention strategies which are data-driven. The Intermediate School also utlilies strong science curriculum that emphasizes the principles of STEAM -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math. The Intermediate School has a hands-on MakerSpace and teachers have attended various professional development opportunities on "making in the classroom." In May, the school hosts a special STEAM showcase evening in conjunction with Remake Learning.
The Intermediate School is very proud of the "extras" we are able to provide students. We offer after school activities for students, including swim lessons, Performing Arts, STEM Stars, Ruth's Way, Be A Middle School Mentor, and tutoring. We also have an in-school activites program, which occurs twice a month. This program gives students a chance to explore such extracurricular activites as media arts, science club, community service, chess club, cooking, baskeball, golf, art, yoga, painting, fitness, world drumming, and swimming. The Intermediate School also has the Ballroom Dancing program for 6th graders, which will culminate with an outstanding performance in May.
As a school we cannot be successful without a strong partnership with our parents. The Intermediate PTO plans special events throughout the year for our families and students, including the Scholastic Book Fair, faculty vs. students basketball, Fun Days, field trips, etc. Please look for information to be sent home with the students as events are planned. Your best support for your child's education is to keep informed, keep in contat with the teachers, ask your child questions about what they are doing and learning, and Read with them.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the programs and curriculum at WH Intermediate School. Thank you for your support.
