Hello!  I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to be working with your family.  Sixth grade is such an exciting time in a student's life and I am thrilled to be sharing it with you and your children.

Let me begin with telling you about myself.  I graduated from Montour High School and then obtained my Bachelor's degree in liberal studies with a focus in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh.  To further my education, I completed a year of graduate work at Pitt to obtain my teaching certificate and recently graduated with my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.  I am certified to teach all elementary grades and middle school (up through ninth grade) in Math, Science, and English Language Arts.

I have always had a desire to teach children.  I wanted to be a teacher for a couple of reasons.  One reason is I love to learn new things.  With teaching, you are constantly learning, changing, and working for what is best for your students.  The other reason is because there is no one I would rather work with than children.  They are a joy to be around and it is so exciting to watch them grow and grasp the challenges they are learning and experiencing.

I am a very passionate teacher with a paramount goal for the year.  This goal is to have children enjoy and appreciate learning.  Learning is definitely a lifetime journey and I work very hard in making sure that it is a positive, challenging, and fun ride.  I believe very strongly in cooperative learning as well as making sure students are involved.  There is a quote that states, "Tell me and I will forget.  Show me, and I may not remember.  Involve me, and I will understand."  I believe in this philosophy and will teach according to it.  Each of your children are very special.  I can promise you that I will respect your child and appreciate what each individual contributes to our team.

I am honored to be a part of this important time in your child's life.  Parental involvement is a major asset to a teacher, and I encourage you to email me with any questions or concerns, now and throughout the year.  As a team, we can work together for the best interest of your child.  I want to thank you for trusting me with your treasures, and assure you that they are in good hands.
