WHIS Hosts National Book Award Winner Colum McCann

Since 2014 the Woodland Hills Interaction Series (WHIS) has provided amazing opportunities to the students at Woodland Hills High School.  On February 26th the WHIS had an inspiring visit from National Book Award winning author Colum McCann. Thanks to our partnership with Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures and their mission to engage youth in our region through their Authors to Schools program, Colum discussed his brand new novel "Apeirogon" and his work as a writer. Our students were well spoken and thoughtful. Colum's publisher sent our students advanced copies and Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures generously purchased finished copies for our students.

Colum is the cofounder of Narrative 4, a nonprofit story exchange program focused on developing empathy in its participants. A regional leader for Narrative 4, Christine Cusick introduced Narrative 4 and Colum's work with that organization to our students.  Christine is a 1993 Woodland Hills graduate.

Thank you as well to Mrs. Lisa Silverman for helping prepare her students for this event.

Colum first visited our school in 2014 and we made sure to tell him that he's welcome back any time!

During its first six years, the WHIS has personally hosted such notable guests as Jennifer Egan (Pulitzer Prize Winner), Sara Shepard (N.Y. Times Bestseller), Tayari Jones (N.Y. Times Bestseller), Colum McCann (National Book Award Winner/Academy Award nominated writer), Elizabeth Strout (Pulitzer Prize Winner), Rachael Lippincott (N.Y.
