REDISCOVER DICKSON PREPARATORY STEAM ACADEMY
After decades of serving elementary students, Dickson Preparatory STEAM Academy was transformed prior to the 2021-22 school year to create a learning environment suitable for middle school students.
Dickson is home to Woodland Hills students in grades 6 through 8, and it serves a transformational role in preparing students for the rigorous academics they can expect at the high school level. Students are given the opportunity to start having more influence over their schedule, including selecting various electives that they'd like to take alongside their core classes. Students are also exposed to more challenging curriculum, including the introduction of more advanced mathematics, language arts techniques, and core science skills, all to help prepare them for the transition to high school.
Outside of the classroom, the middle school environment begins exposing students to extracurricular activities, along with the opportunities and responsibilities that come with their participation in those activities. Students in seventh and eighth grades can begin playing organized sports in Woodland Hills' middle school program in order to help them build their skills prior to high school. All three grades can begin to participate in extracurriculars focused on music, art, community service, robotics, and much more.
REDISCOVER EDGEWOOD, TURTLE CREEK, AND WILKINS ELEMENTARY STEAM ACADEMIES
Elementary students in the Woodland Hills School District have the option of choosing which school they'd like to attend. The curriculum at Edgewood, Turtle Creek, and Wilkins Elementary STEAM Academies is unified, but parents and guardians can signify their preference based on location and other factors. Selection is first come, first serve, and enrollment in each building is balanced out to ensure appropriate class sizes.
The district's elementary schools serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The focus at all three schools is building an educational foundation for our scholars, including important aspects of social-emotional learning. Our youngest Wolverines learn about strong communication skills, problem solving, teamwork, and more, right alongside their core concepts in math, science, language arts, and social studies.
Each elementary school introduces students to our K-12 robotics curriculum, music program, and more. There are STEM nights hosted in partnership with the PTAs, elementary level Shakespeare Monologues and Scenes through Pittsburgh Public Theater, and a wide array of other opportunities to learn and grow.
Edgewood Elementary STEAM Academy is currently undergoing renovations. The first phase focused on rehabilitating the exterior of the building, while the second phase will shift to the interior. The construction will continue through the 2025-26 school year.
