Student Summit representatives participate in Global Impact Forum

Student representatives from the Woodland Hills Student Summit participated in the Global Impact Forum at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh on Tuesday, November 4, as they met with educators, policymakers, and business leaders to share more about the impact the Student Summit has had on them and their communities.

The Global Impact Forum is sponsored by Penn State and Global Silicon Valley with the goal of connecting the academic world with the business world to help navigate the rapid advancement of technology in business and education and to help with workforce development.

The multi-day event includes a day devoted to High School Student Spotlight Projects, which allows local high school programs to showcase their work, with a focus on STEM, AI, and technology. The Woodland Hills Student Summit includes a discussion group centered on student experiences with AI, its rapid advancement over the last few years, and the pros and cons of the technology.

Leaders from major universities and from companies such as Duolingo, Microsoft, Google, and more visited the student representatives and asked them questions about their projects. The Woodland Hills students created a presentation highlighting their work with AI, as well as the overall purpose and mission of the Student Summit. The students were joined by Student Summit founder Ms. Erin Wall and by co-sponsor Mr. Aaron Minor, whose computer science classes cover the rapid growth of AI.

Student leaders for the summit recently met at the Carnegie Natural History Museum for the first stage of the planning for the summit. They’ll meet again at the Heinz History Center in February before the full Student Summit takes place in March at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
