Wednesday night was the eighth grade orchestra, choir, and band's turn in the spotlight during this festive WHSD Department of Music holiday concert season.
Each group played a series of songs for an audience inside the Dickson gymnasium/auditorium.
Under the direction of Mr. Evan Reichenfeld, the orchestra opened the evening with a few familiar classical tunes - "Two Joyous Chorales" by Johann Sebastian Bach, and "Winter (From the Four Seasons) by Antonio Vivaldi. The orchestra went a bit more modern with Robert Allen and Al Stillman's holiday classic "No Place Like Home for the Holidays" before finishing with the timeless "Carol of the Bells" by Mykola Leontovych.
Mr. Reichenfeld brought the choir out next, with the first song the instant hit "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" from Disney's Frozen. Up next was Amy F. Bernon's "Winter's Waking," and "Once Upon a December" from Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty closed out their set.
The concert band concluded the show with a set of classics - "Let it Snow/Winter Wonderland," arranged by Ralph Ford; themes from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker;" and the enduring and endearing "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson. The concert band is directed by Mr. Kevin Varga.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the eighth graders!
