Eighth grade orchestra, choir, and band perform spring concert

Night two of the WHSD Department of Music spring concert season featured the eighth grade orchestra, choir, and band showcasing their talents during a performance in the high school auditorium.

The eighth grade orchestra opened the evening with three selections under the direction of Mr. Evan Reichenfeld. The students began with "Toccatina" by William Hofeldt before transitioning to Jeremy Woolstenhulme's "Lady of the Lake." The final piece was the swashbuckling "Pirates of the Caribbean" by Klaus Badelt.

The eighth grade choir took the stage next under Mr. Reichenfeld's direction. The choir opened with "Now is the Time" by Connye Florence and Jason Shelton, followed by "Cry Me A River" by Arthur Hamilton. The choir dipped into Broadway for its final tunes, first performing "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" from Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Hamilton." The choir finished with a surprise encore performance of "Seasons of Love" from Rent.

Mr. Kevin Varga and the eighth grade band stepped into the spotlight next, beginning with a performance of "Byzantine Dances" by Carol Britten Chambers. Cait Nishimura's "Reflections" came next, followed by "Fire Dance" by David Shaffer.

The band and orchestra united for the final performance of the evening, performing a rendition of Frank Sinatra's "My Way."

The sixth and seventh grade orchestras, choirs, and bands will perform on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the high school.
