Dear Woodland Hills School District Community,
On Friday, August 28, the Woodland Hills School District Board of Directors voted to end the contract of Superintendent Dr. Joe Maluchnik. As you know, Dr. Maluchnik has been on administrative leave since last November.
This was not an easy decision for the Board. There have been many strong feelings about this matter. We also understand that the past year has been difficult for our students, staff, families, and community. There has been a great deal of uncertainty.
The Board believed it was important to take the time needed to carefully review the matter and follow a fair process.
Over the past several months, the Board completed an internal investigation and held public hearings about Dr. Maluchnik and the concerns that led to his leave. After the hearings, the Board carefully reviewed the information, testimony, and documents that were shared.
After this careful review, a majority of the Board voted to end Dr. Maluchnik’s contract with the district.
Our focus now must be on moving forward. We need to work together to help our district heal and become a stronger and more united community.
Our students and staff must remain at the center of everything we do. We will continue to provide the support and resources they need to learn, grow, and succeed. We will also continue to work toward a school environment that is safe, welcoming, and supportive for everyone.
The Board will begin the process of finding and hiring a new permanent superintendent. Until that time, Interim Superintendent Denise L. Sedlacek will continue to serve in her role. Ms. Sedlacek was appointed Interim Superintendent in July and has many years of experience in school administration. She will continue to work with the Board, district leaders, and staff during this time of change.
As we move forward, we must remember what makes Woodland Hills special.
We have caring and dedicated teachers and staff who work hard every day for our students. We offer strong and challenging programs that help students explore their interests and prepare for the future. We also have community groups and partners who work hard to support our students and families. These are the things that make Woodland Hills a special place.
We look forward to finding the right person to lead our district into the future. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support during this difficult time. Most of all, thank you for being part of the Woodland Hills School District family. Together, we will move forward.
