Important Notice to Families Regarding Third-Party Cybersecurity Incident

Dear Woodland Hills School District Families:

The Woodland Hills School District Information Technology team has been informed by Edmentum, one of its third-party service providers, of a security breach involving historical, non-sensitive, non-FERPA protected personal information from approximately 2,100 district students. Edmentum has identified MajorClarity, a program used by the district, as the affected service. No other programs used by the district were impacted.

It is important to note that this incident did not occur on Woodland Hills School District devices or on the district’s network. However, the district takes the security of personal information seriously, especially when it comes to our students, and we felt it was important to act out of an abundance of caution and inform families of this incident.

After a comprehensive review of the incident, Edmentum has assured the Woodland Hills School District that this breach did not include sensitive information such as passwords, grades, transcripts, or other student performance data. Edmentum has identified the source of the unauthorized access of this information, it has taken the appropriate steps to address the matter, and it has not identified any actual misuse of the information that was taken.

At this time, families do not need to take any additional steps. The Woodland Hills School District will continue to communicate with Edmentum to ensure that it is taking the proper steps to securely store student data. If there are any further developments, the district will communicate the appropriate information to families.

If you have general questions about the district’s cybersecurity procedures or best practices, please do not hesitate to reach out to the district’s technology team or to your child’s building principal.

Thank you,
